Course overview

OpenStack Administration II (CL270) provides participants with hands-on skills in installing, configuring, and deploying Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift as well as managing external data plan nodes (EDPMs). The course focuses on how to build a working OpenStack cluster, how the control plane is deployed, and how data plane nodes are set up, scaled, and debugged to run user workloads.
Participants work with real-world scenarios where they install the necessary operators, create custom resources, and use EDPM automation to manage compute nodes. The course is based on Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift 18.

Course Objective

After the course, participants will be able to:

  • Install and deploy the OpenStack control plane
  • Manage and debug data plan nodes via EDPM
  • Scale and optimize OpenStack environments for real-world workloads

Prerequisites

Recommended prerequisites:

  • RHCE certification or equivalent knowledge in Ansible automation and RHEL administration
  • CL170 – OpenStack Administration: Control Plane Management, or equivalent experience in basic administration of Red Hat OpenStack Services on OpenShift

4. Prepare Data Plan Nodes (EDPM)

  • Configure RHEL servers with the necessary resources
  • Prepare nodes to be part of the data plan

5. Deploy the data plan

  • Build and deploy custom resources for node sets and data plane
  • Validate that the data plan can handle test workloads

6. Scale and manage data plan nodes

  • Add and remove nodes in a node set
  • Verify services and function on each node

7. Configure resources for user workloads

  • Customize the RHOSO cluster to support cloud users’ workloads
