Combining agile and projects

Combining agile and projects

Course Summary

Combining agile and projects – Making them work side by side

Do you want to understand how to combine the best of both worlds – traditional project methodology and modern agile ways of working? In this course, you will gain insights into the driving forces behind both methodologies and learn how they can coexist and create value together.

For a long time, there has been an almost ideological conflict between agile approaches and classic project management. Many organizations have tried to resolve this by working agile – but only in certain parts – while keeping project methodology as the unifying force. This course will help you understand why these approaches often clash, and how you can make them work side by side.

We do not focus on mixing the methods, but on creating an effective interaction between them. You get concrete tools and perspectives that allow you to navigate in complex organizations where both agility and project management are needed.

Good to know:
The course is based on active participation and requires a certain number of participants. This is to ensure that you get maximum value from the discussions and exchange of experiences.

After the course, you will have knowledge of the drivers, advantages, disadvantages and theory of sewing networks in both agile and traditional project methods. Among other things, you will:

  • Be able to define typical areas where philosophies clash
  • Get solid tips and tools you can use to combine agile ways of working with regular projects in a way that reduces the friction between them
  • Have the skills to let projects and agile coexist without having to merge them

Have you ever worked in an organization where tensions have arisen between agile working methods and classic project management? Then this course is perfect for you.

The course is aimed at those who want to run agile projects or need to combine traditional project methodology with agile frameworks such as Scrum. You may be a project manager, Scrum Master, product owner, business developer or manager (within or outside IT) and are looking for practical tools to take the next step towards a more flexible and efficient work model.

The course does not require any specific prior knowledge but it is an advantage if you have worked in traditional projects and/or agile organizations.

The course assumes a common basic understanding of what project and agile work are and their different approaches and uses. Therefore, we start by defining the two ways of working and highlighting their strengths and weaknesses. Then we drill down into where these two approaches clash, both philosophically and process-wise, thus creating difficulties and misunderstandings. Finally, we focus on how to combine them effectively and give practical advice on how to work in parallel with these concepts in everyday life. It is not about merging the methodologies into one, but about highlighting the pitfalls of co-existence and collaboration!
