Course overview

Learn the foundational skills required to design, implement, and manage a Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation cluster as well as perform day-to-day storage administration tasks in Kubernetes.
Traditional storage options for Kubernetes administrators are limited and lack flexibility. Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation offers clear benefits, even when the solution uses cloud storage such as AWS EBS or legacy storage systems in data centers. Many companies rely on third-party solutions to manage backup and disaster recovery in production environments. However, planning and implementing these solutions correctly requires knowledge of Kubernetes CSI and OADP APIs. This course guides the participant through recommended steps for configuring and managing storage services for containers and Kubernetes services.

Course Objective

Deploy Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation in internal and external mode.
Provide non-divisible block storage to applications such as databases.
Provide shareable block storage to applications such as virtual machines.
Provide shareable file storage to applications such as CI/CD pipelines and AI/ML.
Provide shareable object storage to applications such as AI/ML and media streaming.
Provide storage for Red Hat OpenShift cluster services, such as monitoring and registry services.
Monitor and expand storage capacity and performance.
Connect and disconnect storage from an application for backup and archiving.
Create and use volume snapshots and clones.
Troubleshoot internal Ceph components in Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation.
Perform backup and restore operations using the OADP API.

The intended audience for this course includes:
Primary target group:

Platform administrators, system administrators, cloud administrators, and other infrastructure-focused IT roles responsible for managing and maintaining infrastructure for applications.

Secondary target group:

Enterprise architects, Site Reliability Engineers, DevOps engineers, and other application-related IT roles responsible for designing infrastructure for applications.

Prerequisites

The Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration (EX280) certification or equivalent knowledge for the Red Hat OpenShift Cluster Engineer or SRE role is recommended.
The Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator (EX200) certification or equivalent knowledge in Linux systems administration is recommended for all roles.
While not a requirement, participants who have completed Red Hat OpenShift Administration III: Scaling Deployments in the Enterprise (DO380) will have advanced knowledge of the Red Hat OpenShift platform in preparation for implementing and working with Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation (formerly Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage).
Basic knowledge of the Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform is recommended but not required.
Basic knowledge of storage technologies, such as disk types, SANs, and NAS, is recommended.

This course does not have any associated certification. Each participant who completes the course receives a course certificate.
