Getting started with AI and Co-pilot

Course Summary

The course aims for participants to understand basic AI concepts and how they are applied in practice. The course covers the use of various AI apps to improve workflows and productivity, with a special focus on integrating and utilizing Microsoft 365 Copilot and other AI tools in their daily work environment.

This course is organized in cooperation with one of our partners and is therefore not covered by the start guarantee.

After the course, participants should be able to:

– Understand basic AI concepts and how they are applied in practice.

– Using different AI apps to improve workflows and productivity.

– Integrate and utilize Microsoft 365 Copilot and other AI tools in their daily work environment.

– Create and automate processes with Power Automate and AI

NOTE! During labs, participants need to have their own Copilot license, i.e. to run the labs on their own M365 or follow the course leader’s demonstration!

This course is suitable for:
– Developers and data engineers curious about AI solutions beyond traditional machine learning models.
– Researchers and innovators who want to experiment with agent-based systems.
– Product owners and technical project managers who want to understand the potential of autonomous agents.

Basic programming skills (preferably in Python).
Basic understanding of AI and machine learning is beneficial, but not a requirement.

Description of the project

Day 1

Module 1: What is AI used for?

  • Introduction to AI: What is AI and why is it important?
  • AI in everyday life: how AI is used in different industries and applications.
  • Ethics and privacy in AI: Basic considerations.

 

Lab Task: Group discussion:

Discuss and reflect on how AI will affect the following areas (choose one area per group)

  • IT Support
  • Education in primary and secondary schools
  • Hacker attackers

 

Module 2: What are the different apps and what do they cost?

  • Overview of AI apps: Introduction to popular AI tools like ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.
  • Price comparison and availability: Free vs paid versions.
  • Subscription models and licenses: What does it cost to get started?

 

Lab Task:

Create a free account on ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Bing Copilot and explore their main features.

Group discussion:

Reflect on the user experience

Ask the same question to all three AI services – Compare the answers, for example how to prevent someone from sending sensitive data via Outlook to external recipients

  • Which one is best?
  • Ask follow-up questions – which one gets it best?
  • Ask for links to more information
  • Ask the AI service to create an image with a logo
  • How good was the result
  • Can you ask for changes

 

Module 3: Examples of when free AI apps help you

  • Finding information quickly and efficiently: Using AI for research and data analysis.
  • Creating Word and PowerPoint presentations: Automating content creation.
  • Building formulas in Excel: How AI can facilitate advanced calculations and data management.

 

Lab Task:

Purpose: This lab assignment aims to provide hands-on experience with how free AI apps can be used to quickly find information, create Word and PowerPoint presentations, and build advanced Excel formulas. You will explore different AI tools and understand how they can streamline work tasks.

  • Create an account on Microsoft Designer and create a design (any theme).
  • Create a Word file /PowerPoint presentation using ChatGPT.
  • Use Google Gemini or Bing AI

Day 2

Module 4: What is Copilot for M365?

  • Introduction to Copilot: What is Microsoft 365 Copilot and how does it work?
  • Features and benefits: How Copilot can improve your productivity.
  • Integration with other Microsoft apps: How Copilot interacts with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

 

Lab task:

  • Log in to Microsoft 365, explore the interface, perform a simple task using Copilot.

 

Module 5: Smarter meeting management and summarization

  • AI-assisted meetings: How AI can help organize and run meetings.
  • Automated meeting notes and summaries: Take advantage of AI to create meeting minutes.
  • Collaboration improvement tools: How AI can optimize collaboration in real time.

 

Lab task:

Purpose: This lab manual aims to guide you through how you can use AI to organize, conduct, and summarize meetings more effectively. You will learn how to leverage AI-powered tools to automate meeting notes and improve real-time collaboration.

 

Module 6: Creating Outlook emails with AI

  • AI-generated emails: Efficiently create and reply to emails using AI.
  • Personalization and tone: How AI can help adjust the tone of your messages.
  • Automation of routine tasks: Manage calendar invitations, reminders, and follow-ups.

 

Lab task

Purpose: This lab aims to teach you how you can use AI to create, personalize, and automate emails in Outlook. You will gain an understanding of how AI can help you effectively manage communications and customize the tone of your messages for different recipients.

 

Module 7: Build Power Automate flows with AI

  • Introduction to Power Automate: What is Power Automate and how can it be used?
  • Automate workflows: Create efficient automated processes with AI.

 

Lab task:

Purpose: This lab manual aims to guide you through the process of building and automating workflows in Power Automate using AI. You will learn how to create a flow and integrate AI to improve efficiency.
