Information architecture

Course Summary

We humans create huge amounts of information and the rate is constantly increasing.
Much of this information is ‘consumed’ or used through digital services and channels.
Structuring and categorizing information is therefore a vital part of service development.
This is what information architecture is all about – digital information management and structural design to promote usability.
This training is part of Informator’s large UX Training Program

The course gives you knowledge in/about…

  • Key terms and concepts in information architecture.
  • The importance of information architecture.
  • Tools that can be used to plan, define and evaluate information architecture.
  • Basic knowledge of issues that may arise when designing information architecture (e.g. client understanding of user needs, impact of platform choice on information architecture).
  • Metadata, taxonomies and search functionality based on user situation and needs

The training is aimed at those who work or will work with structuring information, data sets, websites, apps and the like.

The program does not require any prior knowledge, but some knowledge of UX or Design Thinking is an advantage.

Info to come…

The information architecture basically consists of three components;

Organize
To structure and organize information appropriately

Navigate
Provide users with an efficient and effective way to navigate and find the information they want

Name
For information to be understandable and findable, it needs to be given names and concepts that are ‘right’ for users.

In this course we work on these three areas. The course consists of many practical examples and exercises. We focus on how we can create an information architecture that gives the user a positive experience (UX) of our service.

Course content: Information architecture

  • Structure information and function in a service.
  • Selecting relevant methods to determine information architecture.
  • Document the needs and opportunities that arise during the process and communicate this in an information architecture context.
  • Be able to argue the information architecture development process and its impact on the platform based on user needs.
  • Manage metadata, taxonomy and search functionality according to the user’s situation and needs.
  • Independently use tools used to plan, define and evaluate information architecture
