Managing at a distance

Course Summary

Today, technology has allowed us to be anywhere and still do the same job. While there are many benefits to remote leadership, there are also many obstacles that make it difficult to lead remotely. This training creates an understanding of how you can work with your virtual team so that they still have the feeling that you are ONE team and that you as a leader are present without being geographically.

This training focuses on HOW to lead virtually and takes the fears we know exist around leading remotely and turns them into opportunities:

  • How do I lead when I don’t see those I lead?
  • How do I know how my employees are doing when I don’t see them?
  • How do I know what my employees are doing (and not doing)?
  • How to build the team remotely?
  • How do I structure my time and that of my staff?
  • How do I, as a leader, look at creating collaborations?
  • What do I do when I chair meetings?
  • Who is responsible for the working environment?
  • How do I follow up on company and employee goals?

The course is aimed at managers, team leaders and supervisors who lead or are about to lead teams where geographical distance affects daily work. It is also suitable for leaders who work in hybrid environments and want to develop their ability to create presence and togetherness digitally.

No specific prior knowledge is required. Some experience in leading or participating in remote meetings and collaborations would be an advantage.

At the end of the training, you will receive a course certificate confirming your participation and the knowledge you have acquired.

Emelie Palmér and Annika Stålhandske, have long experience of leading remotely. They have a combined 30 years of leadership experience and for the last six years have both led teams spread geographically with limited opportunities to meet. They have been able to build teams thanks to a strong focus on HOW we work together in a virtual world. Emelie has a background in consulting and has worked internationally for many years. Annika has a background in production and logistics. They have both led and been part of management teams where digital has been a prerequisite for success.

Agenda
The training is usually conducted over three half-days. The approach combines theory, exchange of experience, training and reflection. Digital tools are used to create a more realistic distance experience. After completing the training, each participant has a personal action plan with development points to work on to strengthen their leadership in virtual environments.

Pedagogical approach
The methodology is based on active learning where theory is interspersed with practical exercises, reflection and exchange of experience. The work is process-oriented and based on the participants’ actual challenges, which contributes to increased anchoring and immediate practical benefit.

Materials and accessories
Digital training materials are provided before, during and after the training. Distance learning requires a computer with camera, microphone and stable internet connection. Tools such as Zoom or Teams and interactive platforms such as Mentimeter are used to create an engaging and participant-driven learning environment.
